Our Founding

The Humanities Podcast Network was founded in January 2021 following a panel on “The Scholarly Podcast as Genre” at the virtual Modern Language Association conference.

The panel consisted of Ulrich Baer, Olivia Leigh Branscum, Daniel Dissinger, Annie Galvin, Beth Kramer, Katie McNey and Milan Terlunen (panel chair). At a Zoom happy hour afterwards, the panel met Kim Adams, Saronik Bosu and Laura Perry, and everyone began to discuss the value of forming a network of humanities podcasters.

These ten individuals went on to be the Co-Founders of the HPN, which has nearly doubled in membership four years on.

Since its founding, HPN programming has reached hundreds of humanities podcasters across the world. Collectively, the organization has achieved milestones which include hosting annual symposia since 2021, creating a teaching manual and editing the Palgrave Handbook of Humanities Podcasting, which is scheduled for publication in 2026.
